May Meeting Highlights

We had 18 members of Houma Lodge #1193 attend the LEA State Convention.  Next years convention is set to be held the last weekend in April and will be at the Wyndham Hotel on Pinhook Road in Lafayette, LA.

We received a $60.00 gift card to Home Depot from the Accident Prevention State Committee Chairman, William Boudreaux, to purchase safety items for the Lodge.

At the LEA State Convention, 2 proposals were motioned and approved for spending of state funds.  Each Lodge will get up to $1,500.00 for an “Adopt a School” Program.  There will be guidelines sent to all Lodges for the spending of these funds.  It was also motioned and approved to donate $1,500.00 to the local Food Banks in the name of the local Lodge.

Houma Lodge #1193 will receive $250.00 for selling the most books in the LEA State Raffle and also $250.00 for selling the winning raffle ticket.

I will be sending out dues notices to those that have not paid the dues as of 6/1/2019.  If you paid dues towards the end of May and receive a dues notice, please discard the notice.  We currently have 42 members that have not paid dues for the 2019-2020 year.

Two students will receive the Houma Elks Legacy Scholarship for the upcoming school year.  Both students were participants in the Most Valuable Student Scholarship and are eligible for the local Lodge’s legacy award.

At the 5/22/2019 meeting, we discussed hosting the Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours meeting at the Lodge on Thursday, October 24, 2019.

April Meeting Highlights

Michael Jordan and Roy J Youngblood Jr were initiated into Elkdom at the April 24th meeting.

Louisiana Elks Association State Convention will be May 17th thru May 19th at the Garden Plaza Hotel and Conference Center in Lafayette Louisiana.  We will meet on Sunday, May 5th at 1:00 PM to prepare food for the State Convention Hospitality Room.

We sent a check in the amount of $930.00 to the Elks National Foundation (ENF) from the contributions of our members and the contributions made to the Lodge during the Mid-Season Extravaganza.  Thanks to the members of Houma Lodge for helping us to be #1 in Louisiana for ENF donations Per Capita at an average of $14.82 per member.  Thanks for all that you do in the name of Elkdom.

We will have a Fraternal Family Night in May.  The date will be announced at the May 8th meeting and communicated out via email.  For those that came out and worked for Mardi Gras, the meal will be at no cost.  For all others wanting to come out and have a good time, the meal will be $15.00 for a steak, potato, and salad.  If you would like a burger and fries, the meal will be $5.00.  Please let Sam Authement or Warren Michel know if you are coming so we can plan accordingly.  The bar will be open.

A motion was made at the April 10th Regular Meeting to research and look at the feasibility and cost of installing an elevator in the Main Street Lodge.  At the April 24th meeting I reporting that while looking at websites for elevators, I inquired about replacement cost of a new chair lift.  Based on specifications a new chair lift would run about $3,500.  The Board of Directors will look at the options and make their recommendations.
